Can’t Find a Pelvic PT Nearby? Research Shows Digital Pelvic Health Programs Are an Effective Option!

You’ve spent hours scrolling through social media, deep in research, and you’re starting to realize that pelvic floor physical therapy might be the right step toward addressing your symptoms. But there’s a problem—you don’t have access to a pelvic floor physical therapist nearby. So, what can you do?

Fortunately, a recent study published by BMC Women’s Health confirms that remote or digital pelvic health programs are an effective option for improving pelvic floor dysfunction!

The Research

The article, "Clinical Outcomes of a Digital Musculoskeletal Women's Pelvic Health Program: A Longitudinal Observational Study," was published in BMC Women's Health in January 2025. This study evaluated the effectiveness of a digital pelvic health program for women, focusing on outcomes related to pelvic pain, anxiety, and depression over 4- and 12-week periods.

Chronic pelvic pain is a widespread and often under-treated condition that significantly impacts quality of life. This study explored the benefits of digital exercise therapy as a treatment modality for pelvic floor dysfunction.

The findings suggest that participation in a digital pelvic health program led to improvements in pelvic pain, along with reductions in anxiety and depression symptoms at both 4 and 12 weeks. These results highlight digital interventions as a promising approach for managing chronic pelvic pain and its psychological effects.

The Impact

This is a game-changer for those suffering from pelvic pain, as it expands access to life-changing care and support.

It also aligns with what we’ve observed in our own clinical practice. At Tonic & Phasic, we have successfully offered remote options for patients through pelvic health coaching and telehealth physical therapy with great results.

What’s the Difference Between Pelvic Health Coaching and Telehealth?

  • Pelvic Health Coaching: A holistic approach to pelvic health, guiding patients through the medical system, reviewing past treatments, and creating a comprehensive plan. Coaching includes movement, mindfulness, lifestyle and behavioral strategies, nutrition, and referrals to the right providers. This option is ideal for those located outside of our licensed regions.

  • Telehealth Physical Therapy: Available for patients in California, this service provides virtual pelvic floor physical therapy, including movement guidance and self-assessment techniques. Unlike coaching, telehealth includes medical diagnoses.

While coaching and telehealth differ in technical aspects, the end goal is the same—comprehensive pelvic health support, guidance, and healing.
